(1876-1968)
Israeli Hebraist and Bible scholar. He was born in Myshad, Lithuania. He was a journalist in London, then in 1901 moved to Oxford, where he was minister to the Jewish congregation. In 1918 he went to Palestine as a member of the Zionist Commission. He settled there and became professor of Bible and Semitic Languages at the Hebrew University. His writings include Grammar of Mishnaic Hebrew, Introduction to the Hebrew Bible and The Pentateuch: Its Composition and Authorship.
