(fl. 2nd cent)
Palestinian nasi, son of Rabban Gamaliel II of Jabneh and father of Judah ha-Nasi. After the Romans destroyed the house of the nasi in revenge for the Bar Kokhba revolt (132-5), he was one of the few survivors. He was forced to go into hiding, but later became nasi of the Sanhedrin at Usha. Many of his decisions are quoted in the Mishnah and the Tosephta.
