Simon, John
(1818-97)
   British lawyer and politician. He was born in Jamaica, and went to England in 1833, where he studied law. He returned to Jamaica to practise as a lawyer, but eventually settled permanently in England, where he became a queen's counsel. From 1868 to 1888 he was a Liberal member of parliament and championed the cause of oppressed Jewry.
