(1904-91)
American author, brother of Israel Johua Singer and Esther Kreitman. He was born in Leoncin, Poland, and moved to Warsaw in 1923. In 1935 he settled in New York, where he worked for the Yiddish daily newspaper Forverts. In 1978 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
