Bar-Lev, Hayyim
(b. 1924)
   Israeli military commander. Born in Vienna, he settled in Palestine in 1939. In 1946 he was in charge of blowing up the Allenby Bridge during the struggle with the British. In the War of Independence and the Sinai Campaign of 1956 he served as military commander of various units. In 1964 he was appointed head of the General Staff Branch at GHQ. From 1968 to 1971 he was chief of staff of the Israeli Defence Forces. In 1972 he became minister of commerce and industry.
