(1870-1936)
Polish rabbi and Zionist, brother of Yaakov Thon. He was born in Lemberg. He became an associate of Theodor Herzl, whom he assisted in preparing the First Zionist Congress. From 1897 he was a rabbi in Krakow. In 1919 he was appointed vice-president of the Comite des Delegations Juives at the Paris Peace Conference; in the same year he was elected to the Sejm, where he served until 1935 and was head of the Jewish members' organi-zation. He wrote a biography of Herzl and essays on Zionism.
