Binder, A. W.
(1865-1966)
   American composer. He was born in New York. He became instructor in Jewish music at the Jewish Institute of Religion in 1921 and music director at the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue the following year. In 1948 he was appointed professor of Jewish liturgical music at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He wrote synagogue services and songs, Hebrew and Yiddish songs, cantatas and oratorios, as well as chamber and orchestral music.
