He was a Judean exile in Babylon. Several miraculous experiences occurred to him and his friends at the courts of Nebuchadnezzar, Darius the Mede and Belshazzar. The second half of the book of Daniel contains visions of the rise and fall of empires from Babylon to Macedon and beyond. Daniel is also the hero of the story of Susanna and the Elders and two other tales in the book of Bel and the Dragon.
