Karaite scholar and leader of the Avele Zion (Mourners of Zion). He was born in Damghan in northern Persia, and was the first eminent Karaite scholar to settle in Jerusalem. His Pitron Sheneim-Asar is a commentary on the Minor Prophets, which contains criticism of the rabbinate.
