Dayan, Moshe
(1915-81)
   Israeli military commander and politician, son of Shemuel Dayan. He was born in Deganyah Alef. During the War of Independence in 1948 he commanded the defence of Jewish settlements in the Jordan Valley. In 1952 he was appointed chief of operations at GHQ and later became commander-in-chief. In 1959 he was elected to the Knesset as a member of the Mapai party. Later he was elected to the Sixth Knesset representing Rah. He conducted the Six Day War in 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973 as minister of defence.
