Cox was one of several important political officers of Great Britain in Iraqi Kurdistan in the years immediately following World War I. Succeeding Arnold Wilson in October 1920, Cox successfully worked to incorporate Iraqi Kurdistan and its rich oil deposits into the new state of Iraq that the British were creating.
