   The in Devon in Great Britain is the only university in the West to have developed a strong research focus in the field of Kurdish Studies. This field includes history, politics, religion, language and literature, anthropology, sociology, and international relations and law. Exeter's Centre for Kurdish Studies (CKS) was established in 2006, and the Kurdish program now grants B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. The CKS has benefited from generous donations from the Ibrahim Ahmed Foundation and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Gareth Stansfield has been instrumental in establishing and implementing the program, while Hashem Ahmadzadeh serves as the director. Christine Allison and Clemence Scalbert Yucel are also members of the CKS staff. The CKS held an important international conference on Kurdish Studies on 2-3 April 2009.
