A graft transplanted between genetically nonidentical individuals of the same species. SYN: allogeneic graft, homograft, homologous graft, homoplastic graft.

n.
a living tissue or organ graft between two members of the same species; for example, a heart transplant from one person to another. Such grafts will not survive unless the recipient is treated to suppress his body's immune response to the foreign tissue or the grafted organ is from an identical twin. See also transplantation.

al·lo·graft (alґo-graft) a graft of tissue between individuals of the same species but of disparate genotype; types of donors are cadaveric, living related, and living unrelated (see under donor). Called also allogeneic graft and homograft.
