Lep·to·spi·ra·ceae (lep″to-spi-raґse-e) a family of bacteria of the order Spirochaetales, consisting of flexible helical cells that are aerobic and utilize long-chain fatty acids or alcohols for growth. Medically important organisms are contained in the genus Leptospira.
