pedunculus cerebri
[TA] cerebral peduncle: either of the two large paired portions of the midbrain, being separated from each other ventrally by the interpeduncular fossa and continuous dorsally with the mesencephalic tectum. Each peduncle is composed of an anterior portion, the basis pedunculi, consisting of the crus cerebri and the substantia nigra, and a more posterior portion, the tegmentum.
