coal workers' pneumoconiosis
a severe form caused by deposition of large amounts of coal dust in the lungs, usually accompanied by centrilobular emphysema. Different varieties of coal have different risks, and those with certain types of contaminants may cause other types of pneumoconiosis. See also anthracosis and bituminosis. Called also black, coal miner's, or miner's lung.
