met·ri·fo·nate (met″rĭ-foґnāt) [USP] an organophosphorus insecticide having potent anticholinesterase activity; especially effective against Schistosoma haematobium. Administered topically or sometimes orally to kill parasites on the skin or inside the body. In veterinary medicine it is most often administered orally as an anthelmintic.
