tongue-tie n a congenital defect characterized by limited mobility of the tongue due to shortness of its frenulum

a disorder of young children in which the tongue is anchored in the floor of the mouth more firmly than usual. No treatment is required unless the condition is extreme and associated with forking of the tongue, in which case surgical division of the tie may be necessary.
