Partial dislocation of a joint. A complete dislocation is a luxation.

sub·lux·a·tion (sub″lək-saґshən) [sub- + luxation] 1. an incomplete or partial dislocation. See illustration. 2. in chiropractic, any mechanical impediment to nerve function; originally, a vertebral displacement believed to impair nerve function. See also vertebral subluxation complex, under complex.
