One of the royal seals. This seal was that of the king's chamber which, during Edward Ill's financial troubles in the 1340s, acquired the lands of royal wards and the estates of alien priories; other kinds of escheated land also went into the chamber. This practice ceased after October 1349, when the *exchequer took such lands and estates.
