Her. A word synonymous with the more common 'hatchments'. It was used esp. of coats of *arms displayed at a funeral, or on the front of the house of one who had died, or before a *tournament, which indicated a particularly distinguished feat of arms. When a monarch died his or her arms were blazoned on a *sable field.
