Lineage, line of descent, ancestry; the family line of someone nobly born. Lineage was at the heart of nobility and *chivalry in the medieval period: if a man's honour was offended, so was that of his family. The word was sometimes used in a phrase such as la noblesse de lignage and honneur du lignage. -
