just so story
An explanation of an admittedly speculative nature, tailored to give the results that need explaining, but currently lacking any independent rationale. The term is applied, more or less aggressively, especially to explanations offered in sociobiology . It derives from the explanations of how the leopard got its spots, etc., in the Just So Stories (1902) of Rudyard Kipling.
