- [when a threat is implied] ... or else.

     ♦ "Главный врач мне приказал с ним сидеть, потому что он, то есть Росшепер, без меня не мог. Не мог - и все тут. Ничего не мог. Даже помочиться" (Стругацкие 1). "The head doctor ordered me to sit with him because he, that is, Rosheper, couldn't manage without me. He couldn't, and that's that. He couldn't do anything. Even urinate" (1a).

     ♦ ...Орозкул поленился карабкаться в горы и решил отделаться от сородича первой попавшейся лесиной. Тот ни в какую: подавай ему настоящее сосновое бревно - и все тут! (Айтматов 1). Orozkul was too lazy to clamber for the log, and he decided to get rid of his clansman with any old piece of timber. But the fellow wouldn't have it. Nothing but a genuine pine log would do (1a).
