These terms refer to a believer in, or adherent of, Islam, a religion based on the teachings of the prophet Mohammed. Moslem is the spelling preferred in popular and newspaper usage, but students of religion normally use Muslim. This latter form is also employed by members of the Nation of Islam, an organization of American Negroes who call themselves Black Muslims.
