Kit Carson [Kit Carson]

(1809–68) a US ↑explorer, guide and army officer in the American ↑Wild West. He was an Indian agent (= a government official dealing with Native Americans) in 1853 and was in the Union army during the Civil War. Carson City, ↑Nevada, is named after him.
