(1887–1977) a US ↑conductor born in England who did a lot to make ↑classical music more popular in America. He was known for his dramatic style. He directed the Philadelphia Orchestra (1912–36) and they played the music for the Walt ↑Disney film Fantasia. Stokowski established the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962.
