Matthew Arnold [Matthew Arnold]

(1822–88) an English ↑poet and ↑critic, son of Thomas Arnold. He wrote several collections of poetry, and important essays about education and social and political life in Britain. His best-known poems are Dover Beach and The Scholar-Gypsy.
