CORRIGAN, Ray “Crash”
(1902–1976)
Born Raymond Benard, Crash Corrigan first gained a reputation for his athletic physique, beginning his career as a stunt double. At one time he doubled for Johnny Weissmuller of Tarzan fame. As a Western star, Corrigan was best known for his roles as Tucson Smith in the Three Mesquiteers series and Crash Corrigan in the Range Busters series. By the 1950s, with the B Western era over, Corrigan’s film career ended as well. He attempted a television show, the Crash Corrigan Show, for one season in 1950. One of his last movie roles was that of the gorilla in Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952). After his acting career ended, Corrigan became a successful businessman renting out location property to movie studios.
