Italian and English: of uncertain origin, probably a Late Latin form of JUDITH (SEE Judith), influenced by JULIA (SEE Julia). This was the name borne by the mother of the infant saint, Quiricus (see QUIRCE (SEE Quirce)); she was martyred with him at Tarsus in 304.
