Annabel
Annabel f
English: sometimes taken as an elaboration of ANNA (SEE Anna), but more probably a dissimilated form of AMABEL (SEE Amabel). It has been common in Scotland since the 12th century (often being used as an Anglicized form of Gaelic Barabal; see BARBARA (SEE Barbara)) and in the rest of the English-speaking world since the 1940s.
Variants: Annabella (Latinized); Annabelle (Gallicized, under the influence of BELLE (SEE Belle)).
