(Workers of Zion)
A political party established in 1946 following an earlier split in Ma-pai by the merger of Poalei Zion (Workers of Zion) and smaller socialist Zionist groups. In 1948, it united with Mifleget Poalim-Hashomer Hatzair to form Mapam and, as such, contested the 1949 and 1951 Knesset elections. In the early 1950s, it split with Mapam, reestablished itself as an independent party, and won 10 seats in the 1955 elections, 7 in 1959, and 8 in 1961. It formed the Alignment with Mapai and contested the 1965 and subsequent Knesset elections in that political unit.
