Majadele became Israel's first Muslim Israeli cabinet minister in January 2007. Born in Baka el-Gharbia in northern Israel, he served as head of the education and sports department of the Histadrut. He represented the Israel Labor Party in the Knesset beginning in 2004. On 29 January 2007, he was appointed minister without portfolio in Israel's 31st government; he served in this portfolio until 21 March 2007, when he was appointed minister of science, culture, and sport.
