Acronym for Yahad Shivtei Yisrael ("The Tribes of Israel Together"). A Sephardic (see ORIENTAL JEWS) ethnic political party oriented toward the Yemenite community, it was formed by a breakaway group from Sephardi Torah Guardians (SHAS) to contest the 1988 Knesset election; it was led by Rabbi Shimon Ben Shlomo. Ben Shlomo had served in the previous Knesset, and he formed the new party after he was removed from the SHAS electoral list. It failed to secure a seat in parliament.
