Rachel
   1) (fl. ?19th-16th cent, BCE)
   Israelite woman, daughter of Laban and wife of Jacob. Her father was a herdsman in Haran, for whom Jacob worked. Jacob wished to marry Rachel but was tricked into marrying her elder sister Leah. Subsquently Rachel also became his wife and bore him two sons, Joseph and Benjamin (Genesis 29-35).
   2) (Blovstein, Rachel) (1890-1931)
   Palestinian Hebrew poet, of Russian origin. In 1909 she emigrated to Palestine, where she worked as a labourer. Her poetry is imbued with love for the countryside of Palestine and the Jewish pioneers.
   3) (Felix, Eliza Rachel) (1821-58)
   French actress. Born in Switzerland, she was the daughter of a peddlar. She made her debut at the Theatre du Gymnase. She acted in the revival of French classical tragedies.
