hy·per·pi·tu·i·ta·rism (hi″pər-pĭ-tooґĭ-tə-riz″əm) a condition due to excessive secretion of pituitary hormones. Adenomas producing growth hormone can cause acromegaly and pituitary gigantism; those producing corticotropin can cause Cushing disease; and those producing prolactin can cause galactorrhea-amenorrhea syndrome.
