thio·sul·fate (thi″o-sulґfāt) the S2O32− anion or a salt containing this ion. Thiosulfate is produced in the metabolism of cysteine and excreted in the urine. It has also been used as a tracer for measuring extracellular fluid volume and is a commonly used reducing agent in laboratory chemistry and photography. Called also hyposulfite.
